The Nike Kobe 11 “Achilles Heel” sneaker is released in a black and red gradient colorway for January 2016, paying respect to the Greek god, Achilles, and Kobe’s season-ending surgery in 2013. Kobe’s Nike Kobe 11 features Nike Flyknit technology that includes thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) yarn for superior strength, the brand’s first shoe to feature this new iteration of Flyknit. Similar to architects using metal rebar to reinforce structures, Nike Flyknit engineers reinforce zones of the upper using this high-strength material, micro-engineering areas of strength and stretch precisely where needed while reducing waste in the manufacturing process. The high-performance design boasts a full-length Lunarlon foam and Air Zoom unit, with an embossed graphic of Achilles on the right heel counter.
